Here are another set of 7 Hot household appliances tips you can use straight away:
Tip #1: TUMBLE DRYER
If you find that your clothes come out of the dryer still feeling soaked more than they should at the end of the wash, put them back into the washing machine on the spin cycle at the highest speed to get rid of that excess moisture.
Separate the heavier clothing and hang them out to dry, then put your lighter clothing in the dryer; once they have dried, take them out, and put the heavier clothes that were airing out in the dryer to dry.
Tip #2: WASHING MACHINE
Empty your Washing Machine of Wet Clothes As Soon As Possible:
Doing this is one of the easiest - and most essential washing machine maintenance steps to perform. If you've left wet clothes in the washer, your washing machine may develop an unpleasant odour and can cause mildew and mould buildup if they sit in the machine for too long.
Reducing the risk of mould buildup is one of the quickest tips you can implement to ensure you get a good result for your laundry. As soon as your laundry has finished washing and you are happy that they are spun dry, remove the clothes as quickly as possible. Damp clothes left in the washing machine for extended periods will create a foul odour and an unpleasant smell of mildew.
Tip #3: DISHWASHER
How to Get Rid Of Mould and Fungi:
Use an empty detergent spray bottle you may have in your cupboards or buy a spray bottle.
Fill your bottle with white vinegar, or mix it with baking soda. Now spray your dishwasher from top to bottom. White vinegar and baking soda are consumable food products, so they are perfectly safe to use in your dishwasher.
Bleach is not a good idea because it is a harsh chemical, and it can break the sensors in your dishwasher, so that's not a good idea.
When you have finished spraying down your dishwasher, It may be a good idea to remove the shelves so that you can clean them properly.
Doing all of the above will make a big difference to how your dishwasher looks, smells, and performs.
Tip #4: OVEN
We are all familiar with the saying: "prevention is better than cure" - although it might be an old saying, the proverb most certainly rings true when it comes to maintaining your oven.
If you regularly wipe down the inside of your oven, you will no longer need to use strong oven cleaners for any stains or marks that just won't get out. Get yourself into the habit of following these few simple steps, and the days of getting on your hands dirty to scrub at week-old stains can become a thing of the past.
Regular Wipe Downs:
Wiping down the oven may sound simple to you, but regularly cleaning the outside of the oven is one of the fastest and most effortless ways to keep it looking new and shiny.
Everyone wipes down their worktops when they become dirty, so why not incorporate the front and top of the cooker into this? Quick and easy, yet so very effective.
Tip #5: PLUMBING
It is unquestionably no joy dealing with plumbing faults. That is why we at First Serve UK have made this list of our best plumbing tips to prevent some of your biggest bugbears regarding pipes in your home.
1. Do Not Pour Oily Foods or Grease Down your Drain:
Ever heard of a "grease coat"? Some people use the phrase to describe when they want to eat greasy food to fill themselves up. The same outcome occurs when you dump oil or greasy food down the kitchen sink.
You might think that it's completely fine pouring oil and grease down the sink because it's a liquid. However, constantly pouring oil and grease down the drain will cause the oils to accumulate. In the beginning, you may not notice any issues. Your sink will continue draining as normal. But bit by bit, the grease and oil will clog the pipes and leave you with some serious plumbing issues.
Before pouring that cooking oil down the drain, think about the pipes and choose a safer disposal option. For example, waiting for the fat to solidify before throwing it in your compost bin.
Tip #6: BOILER
"A Stitch in Time Saves Nine":
Do you remember that saying? It is especially true when it comes to servicing your boiler. Annually servicing your boiler is essential for keeping it running smoothly and safely. A Which Magazine 2021 boiler reliability survey of 8,000 boiler owners found that 7 out of 10 boilers serviced annually have never needed a repair!
How much does a boiler service cost? A one-off service should cost anywhere from £119 for a gas boiler and a little less on average for an electric boiler.
Tip #7: MICROWAVES
Microwaves are one of the smaller cooking appliances found in your kitchen that are used most frequently. With frequent usage comes dirt, grease, and bits of food.
If you can smell an unpleasant odour coming out of the microwave, or if you can distinguish the types of foods that have been reheated over the months simply by taking a look inside, it's time to deep-clean your microwave.
Our previous newsletter revealed our top tips on cleaning ovens; you can also apply these tips to maintain your microwave.
Cleaning the microwave with water and citrus juice:
1. Mix a cup of water and lemon juice, lime, or orange. Most people prefer lemon since it smells fresh; however, if you have any other citrus fruits, they'll also get the job done.
2. Mix the lemon juice and the water in a medium-sized bowl that is microwave-safe.
3. Put the bowl of water and lime in the microwave and turn it up to a high setting.
4. Leave it to run for a couple of minutes until the mix boils and steams up. After turning off the microwave, don't open the door immediately. Let the steam relax the grease and grime so it will be easy to wipe off.
5. You can open the microwave after five minutes. Then take a sponge and clean the inside. You'll notice that the dirt will be easy to remove because the steam has softened it up.
I hope you found these tips useful. We are interested if you have any tips of your own that you'd like to share.
